At the entrance buoys dangle from the ceiling, in the restaurant you sit on stacks of carpets and in the foyer you will find a Hapag-Lloyd container refurbished in retro style as a separate dining area. So, where are you? In a cargo compartment or in a hotel lobby? Whoever enters the hotel for the first time is awe struck by so much originality. Nautical, industrial chic with lots of humor! Vintage pieces and the relaxed atmosphere makes you feel as if you are staying in a cool sharing community. No “Sir” or “Madam” at check-in and the kids gets sweets they will love as a welcome present: lollipops in a seashell.
Experienced hotelier, Kai Hollmann, created this showpiece in Hamburg’s new City district. Behind a simple brick façade you will find this funny, family-friendly theme hotel. In the 170 „guest cabins”- some with bunk beds – 25 real or fictitious seamen have left their marks. Their stories can be found in the log books in each room. And an award winning wallpaper with sailor tattoo illustrations decorates the rooms. The laid-back living room lounge has a football table and corner sofas for “chillin”. Here, the children will find a box with toys. Or they go outside to a small playground while their parents drink a Caffè Latte watching them from inside. The whole house is designed to stimulate conversation amongst the guests.
The atmosphere is Hamburg-ish relaxed. Children will not be dismissed to the playroom. They are welcome everywhere. Scooting around on bobby cars and scooters is ok throughout the floors and even in the restaurant. Oh, and the highlight you will find on the roof: The harbor sauna in a container overlooking the cruise terminal. Disembarking from this hotel will be hard…

The check–in counter is built out of transport crates. The desks in the guest rooms are hidden in an oversized suitcase! On „the club floor“ you will find an old Atari computer console. Design fans are constantly on an adventure in this hotel…
The location is super-central and so Hamburg-ish. You are so close to the port that you can see, feel and taste it. Great views of cruise ships in the areas are included. The historical „Speicherstadt“ and the „Elbphilharmonie“ are within walking distance.
There are guest iMacs for the adults, table football, toy boxes and bobby cars for the kids. And you can rent bicycles and even a BMW Mini Cooper for free.
Starting at 7:00 pm on Thursday nights DJs will host an “Ahoi Brause party” (Ahoi Brause is a popular German old-school brand of fizzy candy powder). The adults get candy powder shots, younger guests indulge in the pure fizzy powder. And on Friday nights newcomer musicians can show off their talents.
You won’t see any harsh looks from the waiters here when a child flies by their feet on a scooter. The lounge area with toys is on the same floor as the business meeting room – no problem! Not many hotels are as naturally child-friendly as this one.
One should reserve well in advance, especially for the larger, more attractive rooms on the higher floors with harbor view. The prices can strongly vary, depending upon demand.
If you book a double room with an adjoining bunk bed room you will be charged the price for two separate rooms.
From 260 Euro up, during fairs or major events about 400 Euro per night*. Breakfast optional.
From 220 Euro up * with extra bed. Breakfast optional.
Hamburg – the gateway to the world. Where to start? With 1.8 million inhabitants Hamburg is the second biggest city in Germany (after the capital Berlin). It has more than 2.500 bridges – more than Venice, Amsterdam und London together and it is a very green city. From the district crazy nightlife on „the Reeperbahn“ to the noble quarter Blankenese – Hamburg has it all. From wild to snobby. And also from a cultural point of view Hamburg has a whole lot to offer. And this is not only true since the opening of the famous Elphilharmonie in January 2017. And the kids? They will have a blast, too, as there are even sandy beaches in the city, super exiting museums, great playgrounds and water and ships everywhere.
She lives in Munich with her husband and three daughters. Traveling and finding special places is her passion. She has stayed in the 25hours Hafencity many times and is totally fascinated by its originality. She says:
There are not many hip city hotels with such a child-friendly attitude in Germany! This hotel is a place for hipsters and for families at the same time. We especially loved the colorful mix of people staying here.
